Summer Enrichment Programming

The Joe & Mary Kay Henson Foundation partners with Girls Inc. and Boys & Girls Clubs to help children access enriching summer programs, nutritious meals, and opportunities to thrive.
‍Girls Inc - Summer Enrichment

At Girls Inc. of Sarasota County, an organization that has spent 50 years helping girls build the confidence, skills, and leadership abilities they need to thrive, the Henson Fund contributed funding to keep summer programming within reach for girls from low-income households for the past two years. That support means a girl doesn't lose a summer of growth and enrichment simply because of her family's financial circumstances.

‍Boys & Girls Club - Summer Enrichment

Our relationship with Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties has grown over time. In 2025, the Henson Fund provided funding in summer scholarships for up to 100 children, including youth connected to Newtown and several Sarasota schools. That commitment continued into 2026 with summer camp scholarships and annual memberships at the Roy McBean and Lee Wetherington Clubs, ensuring that cost never stands between a child and a safe, structured environment with academic support, mentorship, and positive adult relationships.

Robert L. Taylor Community Center - Summer Enrichment

At the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, a hub in Sarasota's Newtown area offering everything from a pool and splash pad to a fitness center and computer lab, the Henson Fund provided funding in 2025 and 2026 to send hundreds of children to summer camp. The City of Sarasota specifically recognized the Fund's continued support for the families and children served there in 2026, a reflection of just how meaningful that investment has been to the community.

Dreamers Academy - Summer Enrichment

Dreamers Academy, Sarasota's tuition free dual language charter school, received funding from the Henson Fund to launch its Dreamers Summer Accelerated Academy, a four-week program for students in grades 3 through 6 designed to prevent summer learning loss and accelerate progress in language arts and math. The funding covered teacher compensation, transportation, and snacks for up to 100 students, making a high-quality summer learning experience possible for kids who might not otherwise have access to one.
